So recently, black-metal band deafheaven announced the release of their third studio album New Bermuda. Their 2013 release Sunbather created a lot of waves in the Metal community for popularizing what some people describe as ‘colourful’ Black Metal.
It brought divided opinions, especially from black metal fans who saw Sunbather‘s optimistic approach to the genre as bastardizing. Yet in addition to this, its dabbling into post-rock and (to some extent) shoegaze saw the album as a breath of fresh air with the bright and colourful atmosphere it creates.
Despite deafheaven‘s detachment from progressive music, they ought to be commended for their experimentation in metal – and I am trusting that their latest release will uphold the high quality of their work thus far.
What do you think of deafheaven? Do you share my high hopes for New Bermuda? Tell us what you think in the comments below!
