Yesterday, art rock legend David Bowie released the first single from his upcoming album ‘Blackstar’. Clocking in at just under 10 minutes, this title-track is showing to be the centerpiece of an extremely promising experimental art rock album; and dare I say it even hints towards the progressive?
The use of electronic beats, strings and horns and an eerie vocals brings a paradoxical atmosphere of sci-fi and the occult, making it feel both spiritual and futuristic. Supposedly being the third installment of the ‘Space Oddity’ trilogy, this track works brilliantly as a conceptual song as it progresses between sassy and jazzy attitudes, modest preaching and this more sinister side to Bowie that I’m dying to hear more of.
What do you guys think of the latest addition to Bowie’s track record? I’m seeing it as an extremely promising start to the new year, and hope that more tracks on this album are as progressive and experimental as this.
